Nurse Aide Testing
Successful completion of both the State of Iowa written and skills test allows you to work in several health care facilities as a Certified Nurse Aide.
Location: Western Iowa Tech Community College
Date: June 6, 2026
Course Description:
The state nurse aide skills test is taken at Western Iowa Tech Community College. You will be required to perform up to eight skills in any given skills scenario. You will have three attempts to pass the skills test before you are required to retake a nurse aide class.
Important Information:
· Testing begins at 8 a.m., but please arrive at the Sioux City campus no later than 7:45 a.m. Go to the main entrance to the college and follow the signs to the room where you will check in.
· Bring your physical driver’s license, state ID, or passport as a photocopy on your phone will not be accepted and you will not be allowed to test. The name submitted to the state must match the name on the ID, so if it is different (hyphenated, etc.), please let us know as soon as possible.
· Wear scrubs or clothing suitable for work in a nursing home.
· Bring a watch with a second hand (smart watches are not allowed).
· You must pass both the written and skills test to be on the Iowa CNA Direct Care Worker Registry. A score of 70% or higher is passing. To stay on the Iowa CNA Direct Care Worker Registry, it must be reported that you worked at least one eight-hour shift in a long-term care facility every 24 months.
· In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, testing accommodations are available upon request. They should be sent to the disability coordinator, Michelle Fiechtner (Michelle.Fiechtner@witcc.edu), as soon as possible. If accommodations have already been requested, please notify us when you check-in.
· If you’re unable to come to the test for any reason, please contact the Health Science Department 319-254-6772 at least 24 hours before the testing date, and we will reschedule you for another testing date. If you call on the day of the test or do not show up, you or your sponsor will be charged and you will need to pay for another test attempt. Refunds will only be processed if you notify us of your need to withdraw or reschedule 24 hours prior to the test date.
